Adapting like a Cat

This is my cat, Thai – amazing wise being who is teaching me about many things…

He has always been energetic, engaged, loving and yet also curious and independent.

Recently, he had a sudden health issue which in humans is called vertigo… very bad for cats.

He was unable to walk or eat and was in ICU for 3 days. I was not sure if he would survive and was reminded once again how precious life is. I was out of town when this occurred and chose to fly home one day early to be sure I could see him.

He came home a day later and we both learned how to adapt our environment to support his condition, I watched him be more deliberate about each step because he would fall over if he walked or turned too fast. He attempted to jump up on the chair but could not make it – so I picked him up and we both enjoyed lots of snuggles.

Everyday he has made slight improvements and I celebrate each one.

He continued to test his ability to jump up on the chair and even though he would fall back, he would try again and started to make it on the second attempt.

Now he is back to a smooth jump up but only so far – not too high.

Where is used to zoom up and down the steps, he is now very careful about moving on them. After falling a few times, he now has a new approach to steps, taking them one at a time slowly instead of bounding up and down.

I could go on about watching him relearn or release behaviors, yet let’s look at what we can learn from this experience…

  • Be totally present with those you love
  • Be open to letting a loved one go if it is best
  • Be forgiving of yourself when you can’t do what you used to do
  • Be forgiving of others when they can’t do what they used to do
  • Be willing to try again if initially there was a failed attempt
  • Be aware and celebrate the small improvements you make
  • Be aware and celebrate the small improvements others make
  • Be accepting of the time needed to heal and have quiet time

I don’t know if he will get back fully to his original energetic self, yet we are enjoying all of our time together for however long that becomes.

To get something different, you have to shift from the inside out.

If you have attended a PSYCH-K® workshop, then reflect, create the Goal Statements/ Beliefs to support what you desire, and Balance to integrate your new beliefs. Then take action to demonstrate your commitment.

If you have not attended a PSYCH-K® workshop, then use what you know to transform or contact me about my private session program or find a workshop and learn how to be free to create your future.

In working with me, what is appreciated is the ease and simplicity that the PSYCH-K® approach provides in transforming experiences that hold someone back and to be able to move forward.
