Joy in the Ordinary

It’s amazing to have extraordinary experiences of joy AND let’s find joy in the everyday ordinary.

Where do you experience joy? 

Is it attached to unique experiences like seeing an amazing sunrise from the top of a mountain you climbed or watching dolphins play in the wake of a boat? 

Yes, those are joyful experiences yet what about the everyday moments of joy that we forget or miss?

What about…

  • finding the perfect card to send to a friend
  • watching a pet play with a toy
  • seeing the wonderment of a child experience something new which is ordinary to us
  • discovering a parking space in a crowded parking lot
  • hearing a favorite song 
  • discovering someone took the garbage out without being asked
  • the first sip of your favorite beverage
  • a spring flower blooming

Being aware and present helps to recognize the small joy moments. When we are multi-focused and rushing, it is easy to miss them.

What can you do to be aware of and experience the small joy moments everyday? 

Perhaps start a note in your phone to write them down. Then on days when you are not feeling joy, you can look at your list and reconnect to those wonderful joyful moments.
